| Biography |
Patricia StandTal Clarke is Sámi and Eastern Band Cherokee (Wolf Clan), the daughter of Barbara J. Syverson (first generation Norwegian-American) and Howard D. Clarke who survived forced boarding school to become a veteran officer and pilot in the United States Air Force. In October 1978, after 17 years of training from seven elders, she was made a Didanawisgi (Two Spirited Traditional Medicine Healer) in ceremony. Dr. Clarke received her bachelors from UC Berkeley, her medical degree (MD) from the University of Minnesota, her Family Medicine fellowship at Dartmouth, and her DMin from Claremont School of Theology. She was ordained a Priest in May 1981 (UCC). She trained with Sophie Freud Lowenstein, the granddaughter of Sigmund Freud, in psychoanalysis. She is currently a fellow at the Andrew Weil Center of Integrative Medicine (University of Arizona – Tucson). Her private medical practice is SheDoc. Rev. Clarke serves as Minister of Wholeness at Shadow Rock UCC (Southwest Conference). She holds expertise in body, mind, and soul.
She has served over 48 years as a consultant to the United Nations, World Health Organization, and World Council of Churches; 4+ decades as an ordained protestant Priest; 24 years as Director of RedRoad Traditional Medicine (Native American clinical and research institute); 23 years in private medical practice; on faculty at two medical schools; and as principal investigator in HIV/ diabetes/ Native medicine research.
She is a Fellow with the American Academy of Family Physicians, a founding diplomat of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine (2000) and the American Board of Integrative Medicine (2014), and a 2004 National Institutes of Health honoree: “Changing the Face of Medicine.” She has taught and practiced Traditional Medicine (Ancient Wisdom) of 1000 generations, around the world, for half a century.
She has a passion for Theology, Food as Medicine, Plant People, everything aquatic, her three schnauzers, and her beloved wife (Reta Rainwater). She lives in Phoenix, Arizona.
